Living your Legacy: Working with the New Moon in Capricorn
The year I started setting intentions around the energy of each lunar cycle almost a decade ago, I more than tripled my income in 11 months, from $40,000 a year to $128,000 a year. This got my attention, and it should get yours, too.
Every lunar cycle offers us a unique 29-day opportunity to grow, dream, commit, love, heal, prosper, and release. No matter what your views on astrology, it’s impossible to deny the ebb and flow of the tides or the immense beauty of a crescent moon at sunset or sunrise.
This morning’s New Moon in Capricorn (at 4:57am MST, 20º44) invites us to commit to the structures, boundaries, and discipline to live our legacy and do our life’s work – because it’s never too late.
Consider the differences between job, career, profession, and soul’s purpose. Perhaps weekdays you work in the corporate sector, but on the weekends, you lead teenage foster children on hikes in the wilderness with shelter dogs. It’s not only how we want to be remembered but also what we feel like we must do, because if we don’t, we’ll have missed out on the whole purpose of our life. We’ll have squandered our gifts. No matter how we spend most of our time, we must carve out at least some space for what lights us up at a soul level.
Think about what you would want your obituary to say about you. This will give you a taste of what this lunar cycle is asking you.
You are master of your own legacy. It may take grit and sacrifice. It might take a zillion baby steps to go a mile. Over and over. Until eventually, like the imaginary Capricorn symbol of the water goat, you are at the top of the proverbial mountain. In the distance lies another mountain to climb, beckoning you towards it. Like Mr. Miyagi from The Karate Kid, Capricorn doesn’t care if you’re cold or annoyed or bleeding. It says
YOU’VE GOT THIS.
Even though it’s winter in the northern hemisphere and the days are short, this new moon carries the energy of taking action because Capricorn is a “cardinal earth” sign. Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn) literally initiate a new 3-month season. Maybe you’ve taken up growing mushrooms, maybe you’re learning how to ski for the first time, or maybe you’ve started a meditation practice. Whatever grounds you and connects you to the earth, Capricorn asks you to be disciplined, dedicated, and structured.
This means setting healthy boundaries around what lights you up and how you serve. You don’t want to miss yoga class or a webinar on self-directed IRAs because you were scrolling social media and got lost in golden retriever reels.
Of note, this is the last New Moon in Capricorn with Pluto in the sign of Capricorn for 228 years.
