Expecting the Unexpected (The New Moon in Taurus/Partial Solar Eclipse)

The New Moon in Taurus occurs at 1:28p PDT (10°28’ Taurus) and is a “partial” solar eclipse. That means that the sun will only be partially occluded by the Moon; and this will only be visible to parts of South America and Antarctica.

While Western culture often glamorizes a solar eclipse (remember all those sold-out campgrounds in July 2019?!), traditional cultures were much more cautious about them, and rightly so. That’s because the energy of a New Moon eclipse intensifies that of the New Moon and its lunar cycle, so that we feel it more intensely not only for the entire lunar cycle, but for at least the next couple of years.

In general, eclipses signify endings and beginnings, which is why it seems like more people leave their physical body (also known as “dying”) during eclipse season. If you were born during eclipse season as my daughter was, you may feel them even more intensely.

One of the aspects that sets this eclipse apart from others is that it is the only solar eclipse we’ll experience in Taurus until April 30, 2041. Although we’ll have two more solar eclipses while the North Node transits through Taurus (January 18, 2022-July 17, 2023), the next one in October will be a Scorpio New Moon, and the last will see the New Moon at 29°50’ Aries in April 2023.

To me, this means that this New Moon carries an intensified intensity, lol. We had better be absolutely, 100% sure of what we are calling in with our New Moon intention, because it will manifest. Even if we change our minds, we can’t take it back! (If you missed my free March masterclass, you can learn more about setting a New Moon intention here.)

Likewise, this New Moon eclipse ushers in a prolonged period of revolution, given its proximity to Uranus, the planet I affectionately dub “the mischievous uncle” because of his proclivity for instigating chaos and change. While Pluto heralds transformation through deep dives into our shadows, Uranus brings transformation with lightning speed through breakdowns and breakthroughs. (I also wouldn’t be surprised if we experienced earthquakes and intensified thunderstorms during the Taurus lunar cycle, especially the first week, so make sure you have extra water, batteries, and canned goods if you live in a part of the world prone to bad weather and quakes.)

Uranus has aspected every single New Moon since the Cancer lunar cycle in July 2021; he’s been stirring up all types of rebellion and rabble-rousing, particularly in Taurus-oriented areas of finance, supply chains, the physical body, and farming. Now he’s coming “conjunct” (within 04°04’) to this New Moon; the Moon will exactly conjunct Uranus at 9:24p PDT after the New Moon, while the Sun will conjunct the planetary freedom fighter on May 5 at 12:21a PDT.

What does that mean? I see it as more unexpected changes both in the systems mentioned above, as well as in our own personal values. Uranus is particularly fond of inspiring a-ha moments and intuitive flashes, so don’t be surprised if you or someone you know experiences an abrupt about-face as they come face-to-face with the true values of their heart and soul, rather than those promoted by the conventional mainstream.

Because there is nothing conventional about Uranus. 🤪

Perhaps Uranus in Taurus is currently best exemplified by Elon Musk’s purchase last week of Twitter, one of many social media companies repeatedly called to the carpet for censoring views and opinions (like mine, haha) that don’t adhere to the party line; you can pay to “promote” your viewpoint, but if the Twitter algorithms don’t approve of  your message, it won’t be seen. You may have heard some pundits exhort Musk as the new savior of alternative viewpoints and free speech, while others are eschewing him in their fear that he will allow Twitter to become a bastion for “hate.”

(Anyone who has been on Twitter in the last five years is all too familiar that it long ago became primarily a forum to hate on someone in 280 characters or less. Love is and has been sorely lacking, hence why I avoid it like the toxic citadel it is.)

No matter what your views on Musk, free speech, or Twitter might be, you can guarantee that whatever happens, it will be unexpected, and that’s just the way he likes it. Musk’s North Node is in Uranus-ruled Aquarius, so he not only thrives by doing things in an unorthodox way, it’s his soul’s path!

No matter your soul’s path, allow yourself adequate time to create your New Moon intention with this New Moon, because it will be like you have a magic wand in your hand, but that wand is controlled by Ron Weasley in Harry Potter before he had quite mastered the spells. He eventually got what he wanted, but not before encountering spiders and snakes in the process!
